Australian Athletes with a disAbility
Australian Athletes with a Disability is responsible for the administration of three National Sports Organisations for the Disabled and was formed in 2002. The three organisations are: Australian Sports Organisation for the Disabled; Cerebral Palsy Sports and Recreation Federation of Australia; and Wheelchair Sports Australia. All three organisations are responsible for the development of sport for athletes with a disability and administer, promote and coordinate sporting opportunities.
Australian Paralympic Committee
The Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) is the peak national body responsible for Australia’s elite athletes with a disability. The International Paralympic Committee vision "to enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world" is, through mandate, the APC vision.
Australian Sports Commission - Disability sport
The Disability Sport Unit (DSU) is part of the Sport Programs section under the Sport Performance and Development division of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The DSU has as its mission: To ensure that all Australians with disabilities have opportunities to participate in sporting activities at the level of their choice.
Disabled WinterSport Australia
Disabled WinterSport Australia (DWA) is a multi-faceted, self-help sporting organisation founded in 1978 by Australia's first Paralympic skier Ron Finneran and Canadian instructor Bruce Abel. The purpose of DWA is to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy winter sports and, equally importantly, to enjoy the magnificent environment that is Australia's Snowy Mountains with fellow skiers. Once considered the domain of the young and agile, skiing in Australia in 1974 was about to experience the introduction of an aspect of the sport which, until then, was considered virtually impossible - skiing for the disabled.
NSW Sport and Recreation
NSW Sport and Recreation is a state government department in Australia. Our purpose is to assist the people of NSW participate in sport and recreation, and our vision is of a community that uses sport and recreation to improve its wellbeing.
Sailability® Online
Sailability World Inc operates in numerous countries throughout the world, through activities at 350 local Sailability clubs. Sailability is a "not for profit", volunteer-based organisation which, through the activity of sailing, enriches the lives of people with any type of disability, the elderly, the financially and socially disadvantaged. Under various names, Sailability operates in Australia, France, Greece, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Timor Leste and USA with new national Sailability organisations currently being established in all parts of the world. In 1991 Sailability was introduced to Australia, where there are currently over fifty groups covering every State and Territory. Sailability activities cover a broad spectrum, ranging from recreation, therapeutic and competitive activities, from grass-root, entry level through to elite World Championships and Paralympic training.
Sailors with disABILITIES
Through sailing programs - harbour sailing and ocean racing excursions, crewed by people with disabilities - Sailors with disAbilities aims to help disabled people focus on what they can (rather than can't) physically achieve.
Wheelchair Sports NSW
Wheelchair Sports NSW is based out of Ryde, Sydney Australia. Supporting and conducting a wide range of wheelchair sporting events and programs for athletes of all ages and skill levels, in Sydney and across most of the state. Currently we cater for 14 different sports including; Athletics, Tennis, Basketball, Rugby. Whether you're new to wheelchair sports, an elite athlete or you're interested in becoming one of our valued sponsors, volunteers or donors, there's something here for everyone.
