Information and support for carers

Carers Australia
Carers Australia represents the needs and interests of carers at the national level by advocating for carers needs and interests, conducting research and pilot projects, participating in a wide range of inquiries and reviews and providing carers with information and education resources.
Carers NSW
Carers NSW is an association for relatives and friends who are caring for people with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition or who are frail aged. We are the Peak Body for carers in New South Wales and the only statewide organisation that has carers as its primary focus.
Carers' Taskforce Australia Inc
Roy Wyatt and his wife Trish founded the Carers' Taskforce Australia Inc in 1995. Trish has had Multiple Sclerosis since 1981 and Roy gave up his career to become her full-time Carer in 1993. The lack of support available gave birth to the Taskforce. The Taskforce is run BY CARERS FOR CARERS and aims to assist Carers by raising the profile of Carers, increasing community and government awareness.
Centrelink - Commonwealth Carer Resource Centres
Commonwealth Carer Resource Centres provide information and advice to carers. The centres can assist carers with referrals, counselling, support and resources on a wide range of topics including: carer support groups, home help, financial entitlements, support services, and arranging respite.
Centrelink - Commonwealth Carer Respite Centres
Commonwealth Carer Respite Centres support carers to access respite or 'take a break'.
Qantas Carer Concession Card
Nican administers the Qantas Carer Concession Card on behalf of Qantas. The Qantas Carer Concession Card is issued to people with a disAbility and high level support needs who require the full-time assistance of a carer whilst they are on the plane. The person is eligible if they need to have one-on-one support when seated on the plane for assistance with meals/drinks, transferring to the bathroom, orientation, communicating with the flight staff etc. A person would not be eligible if they only need assistance boarding the plane, or when they arrive at their destination.
The Working Carers Support Gateway
The Working Carer's Support Gateway project is a new service initiative developed by the Disability and Aged Information Service Inc (DAISI), based in Lismore on the far north coast of NSW. Our partner in this project is NSW Health under its Carer’s Program. The primary aim of the Gateway project is to provide information and support to low income and isolated carers in NSW who are juggling both caring and workplace demands. The website offers a range of resources to provide support on the run to busy carers. The vision that underpins this initiative is that working carers are valued, respected and supported to achieve balance in their work and home life.
